League Overview

The Pick Your Partner (PYP) 7.5–8.5 Mixed League is an advanced, competitive mixed doubles league. Teams register with a permanent partner and compete against opponents with similar combined ratings throughout the season.

The league uses a two-division format based on combined partner ratings:

  • Essos Division: Combined rating 7.5–8.0
  • Wessos Division: Combined rating 8.0–8.5

Each league has 12 teams, for a total of 24 teams across both divisions.

Teams are placed into divisions based on their combined PCVG or DUPR ratings at the time of registration.

Game scores are not reported to DUPR.

Eligibility Requirements

    • Must be a member of MyPBGames.

    • Must be a full-time resident of The Villages.

    • Must be age 50+ during the registration year.

    • Must register as a partnered team.

    • Combined partner rating must fall within:

      • 7.5–8.0 (Essos)

      • 8.0–8.5 (Wessos)

    • Ratings must be validated through:

      • A published PCVG rating, or

      • A DUPR rating with 30+ games and 60% reliability.

  • Full-time players and substitutes must meet the following:

Two 3.5 players cannot register together.

A single 3.5 player may register only if the partner creates a legal combined rating within a division.

  • Play-up requests will be considered individually and require Commissioner approval.

 

    Combined Rating Requirement

    To qualify, players’ combined ratings must fall between 7.5 and 8.5.

    Examples:

    • 3.5 + 4.0
    • 4.0 + 4.0
    • 4.0 + 4.5

    A qualifying DUPR rating may be used if a player does not have a PCVG rating. 

    These combined ratings are used for both registration eligibility and division placement.

    Season Structure

    • Three seasons per year: Fall, Winter, Spring (12 weeks each).
    • Courts: Everglades Pod A and Olympia Pod A.
    • Each team plays two matches per week, with each match consisting of three games to 11 (win by 1).
    • Scoring is points-based. Total points determine standings.

    Awards

    • Gold – 1st place

    • Silver – 2nd place

    • Bronze – 3rd place

    Weekly Match Schedule

    • Match 1: 10:00–10:55 AM

    • Match 2: 11:00–11:55 AM

    Forfeits for Late Arrival

    If a player is late:

    • 10:05 AM – Forfeit Game 1

    • 10:20 AM – Forfeit Game 2

    • 10:40 AM – Forfeit Game 3

    A no-show results in all games forfeited (11–0 each).

    Substitutes & Replacements

    Players are responsible for arranging their own substitutes and permanent replacements when needed.

    • Weekly substitutes must be at the same skill level as the player being replaced.
      Substitutes may not be rated higher in a way that creates a competitive advantage.

    • Permanent replacements must also meet all league eligibility and combined-rating requirements.
