Mixed 7.5-8.9 Pick Your Partner (PYP) League

Mondays: 10AM-Noon @ Olympia Pods A & B

The Fall 2026 session runs from October 5th thru December 21st.

League Overview

The Pick Your Partner (PYP) 7.5–8.9 Mixed League is an advanced, competitive mixed doubles league. Teams register with a permanent partner and compete against opponents with similar combined ratings throughout the season.

  • Each league has 12 teams, for a total of 24 teams across both divisions.
  • The league uses a two-division format based on combined partner ratings.
  • Teams are placed into divisions based on their combined PCVG or DUPR ratings at the time of registration.
  • The highest-level players will be in the West Division.
  • Both partners must register through MyPBGames to be eligible to participate.
  • Each 2-person team will designate a Captain who will be responsible for entering required data into MyPBGames. The PCVG’s Data Usage & Technology Security Policy must be signed before Captain access can be granted.
  • Game scores are not reported to DUPR.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Must join PCVG's MyPBGames.
  • Must be a full-time resident of The Villages.
  • Must be age 50+ during the registration year.
  • Must register as a partnered team.
  • Ratings must be validated through: PCVG rating, or

    • A DUPR rating with 24+ games and 60% reliability.
    • Players with both a PCVG and DUPR rating must use whichever rating is higher for entry.
  • Full-time players and substitutes must meet the following:

    • Two 3.5 players cannot register together.
    • A single 3.5 player may register only if the partner creates a legal combined rating within a division.
  • Play-up requests will be considered individually and require Commissioner approval.

Combined Rating Requirement

To qualify, players’ combined ratings must fall between 7.5 and 8.99.

Examples:

  • 3.5 + 4.0

  • 4.0 + 4.5

These combined ratings are used for both registration eligibility and division placement.

Substitutes & Replacements

Team Captains are responsible for arranging their team's substitutes and permanent replacements when needed.

  • Permanent replacements must also meet all league eligibility and combined-rating requirements.

Substitute Policy

A substitute must match the competitive level of the player they are replacing. The goal is to maintain fair and balanced play across all matches.

1. Rating Requirements

A substitute's rating must be equal to or less than the player they are filling in for. If two substitutes are playing together for a team, their combined rating must be equal to or less than the team they are playing for.

If a player has both DUPR and PCVG ratings, the higher rating will be used to determine eligibility. If a player does not have a DUPR rating, the PCVG rating will be used.

2. Approval

The League Coordinator has final authority to determine whether a substitute meets rating and fairness requirements.
